Portrait by RichieRescue.

Taking his in-game moniker from British satirist Douglas Adams, Slartibartfast38 has also been a familiar name to Spore players since the game’s early days. His provocative, detailed creations have earned him much attention, mostly positive, from players and publishers alike. He’s currently submitting content for an innovative contest run by HASTAC & the MacArthur Foundation and he agreed to answer (most of) my questions.

RichieRescue  :  What is your first thought when you wake?
Slartibartfast38  :  Can I make it to the washroom or should I just use the water bottle on the nightstand?
RR  :  lol, that’s not good.
S38  :  Honestly…i check on my son, everymorning, make sure he’s there.

RR  :  Why don’t we have flying cars yet?
S38  :  Our society’s stringent safety rules and reg’s will not allow us to ‘venture forth’ like we used to…and until it is damn near ‘failsafe’ It’s doubtful we’ll see it for mass use.
RR  :  It’s a pity I can’t publish your first answer.

RR  :  What do you miss most about being a kid?
S38  :  Elvis.
I LOVED Elvis as a child and cried for 2 days when he died.
…and recklessness. You lose a little of that with age.

RR  :  Why did you start playing Spore?
S38  : Honestly… 2 reasons…the YouTube demo looked amazing…and I had a lot of time on my hands.

RR  :  What’s kept you creating?
S38  :  That’s easier, I love it…it’s sooo much easier than getting paints and brushes ready. I can let my imagination fly with very little effort
