Braaa-ains! (and java…)

I’m really digging how much people seem to enjoy the, now annual, mass ‘zombie walks’ organized in urban centres globally.

Beginning in Toronto in 2003 with only a handful of participants the event has proved more infectious than a genetically engineered killer-virus. Dozens of cities worldwide can expect to endure a gruesome horde of bleeding, moaning, charitable semi-corpses shuffling through their streets this year.

Time to invest in some garden tools, no brain is safe.

Nikolai Diablo

Some say that he was born at a crossroads at midnight, in the shadow of a gallows. But the truth could be much worse.

Slarti-1-3

Portrait by RichieRescue.

Taking his in-game moniker from British satirist Douglas Adams, Slartibartfast38 has also been a familiar name to Spore players since the game’s early days. His provocative, detailed creations have earned him much attention, mostly positive, from players and publishers alike. He’s currently submitting content for an innovative contest run by HASTAC & the MacArthur Foundation and he agreed to answer (most of) my questions.

RichieRescue  :  What is your first thought when you wake?
Slartibartfast38  :  Can I make it to the washroom or should I just use the water bottle on the nightstand?
RR  :  lol, that’s not good.
S38  :  Honestly…i check on my son, everymorning, make sure he’s there.

RR  :  Why don’t we have flying cars yet?
S38  :  Our society’s stringent safety rules and reg’s will not allow us to ‘venture forth’ like we used to…and until it is damn near ‘failsafe’ It’s doubtful we’ll see it for mass use.
RR  :  It’s a pity I can’t publish your first answer.

RR  :  What do you miss most about being a kid?
S38  :  Elvis.
I LOVED Elvis as a child and cried for 2 days when he died.
…and recklessness. You lose a little of that with age.

RR  :  Why did you start playing Spore?
S38  : Honestly… 2 reasons…the YouTube demo looked amazing…and I had a lot of time on my hands.

RR  :  What’s kept you creating?
S38  :  That’s easier, I love it…it’s sooo much easier than getting paints and brushes ready. I can let my imagination fly with very little effort

How a tablet changed my world…

JTP

OK, so I know Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville will not exactly be worried by my painting prowess but using a tablet, such as Wacom’s Intuos series makes a massive difference to what can be created by a digital artist in a short space of time.

EscherCoaster

Tri-Rail rollercoaster concept.

What appear to be three rails are, in fact, one arranged in a complex three-lobed spiral. The car twists 120 degrees with each circuit, needing 3 circuits to return to its original orientation. >>See video below for a preview ride.

What is matchmoving? Good question…

Aww.. the cute little guys were a match-moving experiment in Cinema4D. I’m looking forward to having much more fun with Maya.

School’s out…

..until 2010. I’m at home, hugging my computer for warmth because even LA gets chilly for December & January. Or is my blood finally ‘thinning’ as everyone promised?
